The Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 is a compact live production switcher with an integrated broadcast control panel. It offers 8 3G-SDI inputs, built-in streaming, recording, multiview, USB webcam support, DVE, 4 Chroma Keyers, media players, talkback, a 4-way Ethernet switch, and optional cloud storage.

Easy to Use and Fast to Learn

The switcher is incredibly easy to use—just press a program button to cut between video sources, or pre-select a source on the preview row and choose a cut or effect transition. Choose from transitions like dissolve, dip to colour, DVE squeeze, or push, and add picture-in-picture effects with custom graphics. Media players store graphics with alpha channels for titles and live video inputs.

ATEM Television Studio offers both professional program/preview and simpler A/B switching modes, ideal for volunteers or community groups. The program/preview mode ensures sources aren't aired until you press cut or auto, minimizing mistakes and providing a great training tool for aspiring broadcast professionals.

Easy to Add Exciting Video Effects

The cut button instantly switches between sources, while the t-bar fader controls video transitions. The auto button transitions automatically using the set duration. Choose from effects like mix (smooth transition), dip (using a third source), SMPTE wipes, or fun DVE effects that slide or squeeze images during transitions.

Includes Loads of Extremely Creative Transitions

ATEM Television Studio offers advanced, customizable transitions found in high-end switchers. Adjust parameters like duration, border colour, width, position, and direction to create unique effects. You can even combine the DVE with a wipe transition for a graphic wipe, popular in sports broadcasting. Use the preview transition button to set up effects offline and avoid mistakes.

Built in DVE for Broadcast Video Effects

ATEM Television Studio includes an independent DVE for repositioning graphics and creating picture-in-picture effects with real-time resizing and scaling. It supports customizable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting, and can create dynamic transitions like squeeze, swoosh, and push. You can also combine DVE transitions with custom graphics for graphic wipes. Plus, it features SuperSource with 4 additional DVEs for multi-layer processing.

Supports Internal Media for Stills and Motion Graphics

The built-in media pool stores broadcast-quality graphics and animations, which can be played back through independent media players, saving SDI inputs. All media supports RGB colour space with alpha channel for transparency and layering. Use ATEM Software Control to upload and manage media, or prepare graphics in Adobe Photoshop and upload via the free ATEM Photoshop plug-in.

Powerful SuperSource Processing

ATEM Television Studio also features the SuperSource multi-layer processor, adding 4 DVE layers and a background layer as an additional input source. You can layer video inputs with a custom background or live video, ideal for multiple picture-in-picture displays, like interviews. SuperSource acts like an independent multi-layer VFX switcher, offering versatile visual effects.

Up to 8 Standards Converted SDI Inputs

The ATEM Television Studio HD models offer 8 independent 3G-SDI inputs, each with a dedicated standards converter, allowing seamless support for 720 HD, 1080 HD, or 2160 Ultra HD sources. Each input can have a different video standard and still work. Audio channels 1-4 from the SDI inputs can be routed to program and aux outputs, or channels 1 and 2 can be sent to the MADI digital audio output for external mixing.

Professional SDI Outputs with 16 Channel Embedded Audio

The ATEM Television Studio offers up to nine SDI program outputs, providing separate return feeds for all cameras with tally, talkback, and control info. It also includes aux outputs for stage monitors and recorders, with two live-switched via control panel buttons. One aux output features an on-screen counter for presenter monitoring. Audio can be routed into all 16 embedded SDI audio channels. Additionally, there’s a dedicated 3G-SDI and HDMI output for multiview.

Built In Audio Mixer with 6 Band EQ, Compressor and Limiter

The ATEM Television Studio includes a built-in Fairlight audio mixer for complex live sound mixing. It supports all SDI, XLR, RCA, and MADI inputs, with each channel featuring a 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander, noise gate, and level/pan controls. You can mix all channels simultaneously or set audio to "audio follow video." The mixer is adjustable via the front panel controls, LCD, or ATEM Software Control.

Built-in Multiview Supports 16 Sources on a Single Monitor

ATEM Television Studio includes a professional multiview for seeing all video sources, preview, and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor. You can also send the multiview to aux outputs. Each camera view features tally indicators, custom labels, and audio meters, with up to 16 simultaneous views. Additional status views track recording, streaming, and audio mixer status directly from the multiview.

Live Stream to a Global Audience

ATEM Television Studio includes a built-in hardware streaming engine for high-quality, frame-drop-free live streaming to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. Stream via Ethernet or mobile data, then select the service and enter the streaming key using ATEM Software Control. The data rate indicator shows the required internet speed, and you can update streaming profiles with an XML settings file to add new services.

Connect 5G or 4G Phones for Mobile Data

ATEM Television Studio supports mobile data by connecting an Apple or Android phone to the USB port, serving as both a mobile solution and backup for Ethernet. It works with 5G and 4G phones, automatically switching to mobile data if the Ethernet connection is lost. The phone charges via the USB port, ensuring it's always ready for mobile production anywhere.

Outputs to Any Software that Supports USB Webcams

ATEM Television Studio emulates a webcam via USB, allowing you to use any video software that supports webcams. It works with programs like Zoom, Teams, or Skype, delivering 1080HD quality. For streaming, it also supports software like Open Broadcaster and XSplit.

Record to Internal Storage or USB Disks

ATEM Television Studio supports recording to external USB flash disks or internal M.2 storage (if installed). Both internal and external storage can be shared over Ethernet for post-production tasks like editing and graphics. Recordings are in H.264 with AAC audio, offering broadcast quality and small file sizes. Multiple USB disks can be connected for uninterrupted recording, and the control panel provides buttons to start recording with status visible on the multiview.

Internal Storage Supports Multiple Users

With an optional M.2 flash memory card, ATEM Television Studio becomes a fast network disk, supporting multiple ISO video recordings and simultaneous editing by external users. The internal storage is easy to set up and can sync with Dropbox and Google Drive, enabling global media sharing between ATEM switchers or Blackmagic Cloud Stores, even over low-cost internet connections.

If the internal supply fails, you can connect an external DC source to continue operation.

Compatible with Blackmagic Cameras, Panels, Decks and More

ATEM Television Studio can be expanded with Blackmagic Studio Cameras, offering professional features like tally, talkback, and camera control in a compact design. The URSA Broadcast G2 camera, with B4 lenses and optional SMPTE fiber, is another option. For camera control, add the ATEM Camera Control Panel for up to four cameras. For recording, Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio recorders support ProRes and DNx formats.
