LUMI400 vs Interfit Honey Badger

For every photographer, high-quality yet affordable lighting is desirable, but this can be very hard to come. In this blog, we compare two lights in the market, the PIXAPRO LUMI400 and the Interfit Honey Badger, to see which light would be best for you.

There are a few similarities between these two lights to begin with. Both of these lights come with a Colour Temperature of 5600 ± 200K, which would offer the user a detailed and vibrant shot every time. They both also come with a Bowen S-Type standard fitting, which is the most common fitting on the market, allowing the user to easily find suitable modifiers and attach them to the light for whatever requirements they may have. Both lights also have very similar displays, as they both have buttons that are well labelled and easy to use, and come with a screen to help the user see what it happening. After this, the two lights do begin to start differing quite a lot.

The LUMI400 is a 400W light compared to the Honey Badger which is only a 320W light, meaning that you will be getting more power and brightness from the LUMI400. Seeing as the Honey Badger is a less powerful light, you are likely to see some positives when it comes to the flash. For instance, the Flash Duration at full power on the Honey Badger is 1/900s compared to 1/800s offered by the LUMI400, which means that you can achieve a faster flash duration for the Honey Badger than you can for the LUMI400. The Recycle time is also better for the Honey Badger due to the power difference, as the LUMI400 has a Recycle time of approximately 1.5s at full power and the Honey Badger has a Recycle time of approximately 1s. This may seem good on paper, but the difference in the power is the main cause behind these specifications, and if the LUMI400 was dropped down to 320Ws, it’s believed that it would be able to match, if not beat, the Flash Duration and the Recycle Time of the Honey Badger.

One noticeable difference between these two lights is the size. The LUMI400 is approximately 12.5cm x 25cm x 35cm and the Honey Badger is approximately 12.7cm x 12.7cm x 15.2cm. So, whilst they are similar when it comes to the overall diameter of these lights, the sizes differ when it comes to the height and length of these lights. This impacts the weight of the lights also, as the LUMI400 weighs approximately 2KG and the Honey Badger weighs approximately 1.4KG. This means that the Honey Badger is more portable and easier to store than the LUMI400.

Another noticeable difference between the lights is the price. The Honey Badger is being sold by Interfit for £239.99 and the LUMI400 is being sold by PIXAPRO for £184.99, this means that the customer would be getting a lot for their money with the LUMI400. This could make a huge difference for the average customer as the extra in price could allow them to purchase any extra modifiers, they may feel they require, without having to spend more money. The LUMI400 is also part of the ONE System offered by PIXAPRO. What this system allows the user to do is control all of their lights via a single trigger, as the lights themselves come with a built-in 2.4GHz Receiver, making controlling the lights easier and allows the user to adjust the shoot quicker for their requirements. The customer also receives a 2 Year UK Warranty with the LUMI400, which means that if anything were to happen to the light in this period of time, the customer would be able to get in contact with PIXAPRO and they would be able to assist with any issues. All issues are dealt with in the UK, meaning that the time spent waiting for a resolution is much shorter than other companies.

Whilst both of these lights are very good quality and have their own positives over the other, it’s hard not to think that the LUMI400 would be the better option to go for. It is the more powerful of the two lights whilst also being the cheaper, and when the power is dropped down to match the Honey Badger, it is believed to be just as quick. And the benefits of the ONE system and the 2 Year UK Warranty, its easy to argue that the LUMI400 is the right choice.
