Screen and Size
While both models have a snazzy colour touchscreen included, the X3 maintains portability over all, while the X3Pro strikes a middle ground between it's compact design and visibility and ease of use. Going from a 1.7in OLED screen to a 2.4inch LCD touchscreen, the X3Pro allows you to view up to 4 groups at one time on the larger display, and is better for quick settings changes.
Overall, the size difference between the two triggers is:
X3's 1.45" x 1.85" x 1.61"
X3Pro is 2.13" x 2.6" x 1.61"
Both are the same height, but the new X3Pro is slightly wider and taller, owing to the larger screen size. A side effect of this larger size also lies in the heavier weight of the X3Pro, sitting at 103g, over twice as heavy as the tiny 48g of the original X3, but still fairly lightweight overall.
Bluetooth Compatibility
The X3Pro now also features Bluetooth connectivity, a requested feature in the original X3, now enabling it to connect with the Godox Flash Smartphone app. This gives you the ability to control the output of your flash remotely with your smartphone, this feature is handy for when you can't reach your camera or need to adjust settings from afar.
Creative Shutter Controls and Remote Shutter Release
The X3Pro features advanced shutter controls, enabling you to set a shutter delay, exposure time, and intervals directly via the touchscreen. It also supports single-shot, time-lapse, and long-exposure, giving you more creative freedom.
Additionally, it features a PC sync port and compatibility with the new XR flash receivers (available separately) that can be used as a wireless remote shutter release and intervalometer for your camera
Improved Battery
While matching the X3's charge time of around 2 hours to reach full charge, the X3Pro's built in battery has a much longer standby time, going from 7 days of standby life to over a month at 35 days! While no specific numbers are provided yet for how many flashes this will provide you, the Pro model's 2930mAh battery promises more life and less drainage than the X3's 850mAh model.
The Pro model's switch from OLED screen to a more efficient LCD screen may also contribute to this efficiency.
In Summary...
...the Godox X3Pro takes the foundation of the original X3 and builds on it with practical improvements designed for photographers who want more control and efficiency. Its larger touchscreen makes navigating settings faster and clearer, while Bluetooth compatibility opens up remote control via the Godox app. Added creative shutter options, remote release functionality, and a significantly stronger battery life make the Pro model a more versatile tool for both studio and on-location work.
While the X3 still maintains compact size and featherweight portability, the X3Pro justifies its slightly higher price and extra bulk by offering a balance of usability, power, and advanced features that will appeal to those looking for a more capable trigger system. Ultimately, the choice comes down to whether portability or expanded functionality matters most to your shooting style.
