What's stayed the same?
The same classic function remains, with the bracket allowing you to adapt your speedlights or compact flashes to be compatible with Bowens S-Type modifiers such as softboxes, beauty dishes and more, so that you can expand your setup options.
Both brackets also have the two inner removable blocks, allowing you to adjust the size depending on what lights you're using.
What's changed between the S2 and S3 brackets?
Size and Weight
The biggest difference with the S3 is the weight and size! Designed to be more compact than the S2, the S3 is now easier to fit into a backpack or kit bag, with some excess weight trimmed off too.
The S2 bracket weighed in at 560g, and 18x15.2cm.
In comparison, the S3 bracket now weighs 450g, and has dimensions of 18x13.58cm.
Release Switch
Another adjustment is the release switch when you need to remove your bracket from the modifier. Previously a small metal pull latch, the new S3 has a small spring loaded button switch instead that releases the bracket. A small, ergonomic change, this doesn't affect function of the bracket otherwise.
Improved Umbrella Mount
Finally, the only other difference with the S3 bracket is the improved umbrella slot. Previously, umbrellas were held in place with a spring-loaded mechanism. Now, the S3 umbrella slot uses a screw to tighten the umbrella shaft in place, to ensure it's more sturdy and less likely to slip.
