Power

The most obvious difference between the two models is power output, with the AD400Pro II outputting a maximum of 400ws, while the AD600Pro II reaches up to 600ws.

Both offer identical 10-stop power adjustment ranges (from 1/512 to full power in 0.1-stop increments), giving you fine-tuned control over your lighting.

For most portrait and editorial work, 400Ws is plenty. But if you often shoot outdoors in bright sunlight or need extra reach with large modifiers, that additional 200Ws from the AD600Pro II could make a noticeable difference.

Flash Duration & Recycling

Both models perform exceptionally well in high-speed and action scenarios. The AD600Pro II has an ever so slightly faster recycle time by 0.1s at full power, while the AD400Pro II has a faster flash duration across the board, including over colour mode and freeze mode, making it better for freezing movement and capturing sharp images.

Battery Capacity

The AD400Pro II also has a more efficient battery, offering up to 100 more flashes per full charge than the AD600Pro II, allowing you to shoot for longer!

Modifier Fittings

While both flashes feature the classic Bowens S-Type mount, the AD400Pro II has the addition of the Godox Fitting too! A smaller, more compact mount, this makes it compatible with a wider range of modifiers, including modifiers designed for the Godox Fitting AD300Pro.

Size & Weight

Portability is where the AD400Pro II shines, at 1.5kg lighter than the AD600ProII, and a smaller, more compact body (though a similar shape). It's smaller size makes it easier to travel with, and to pack into a kit bag for location or events shoots.

Price

With a roughly £150 price difference between the two models, the 200w extra output on the AD600Pro II might seal the deal for many photographers.

Pick the AD400Pro II if you want:

  • Faster flash durations for freezing motion
  • More flashes per charge
  • Lighter, more portable design
  • Dual mount flexibility

Pick the AD600Pro II if you want:

  • 200Ws extra power
  • Slightly faster recycle times
  • Brighter modelling lamp
