Power & Output

At 2,400ws output, the P2400 is twice as powerful as the AD1200Pro at 1,200ws, packing much more of a punch at full-power, and allowing more flexibility. The P2400 pack allows for two flash heads to be attached, making it suitable for either one 2,400w output head, or two 1,200w output heads to be used at any one time.

Both flashes can be adjusted in as little as 1/10th of a stop increments, allowing for tiny adjustments to get to the right power level you need. Each flash also allows 10 stops of power range, hitting as low as 1/256th of a power for maximum control and versatility.

Flash Durations & Recycle Time

With a range of 1/220s - 1/10,860s, as well as confirmed High Speed Sync up to 1/1,800s, the AD1200Pro allows for high-quality freezing of action and movement, for super sharp, crisp images. This makes it great for anything from dance photography, to sports, drinks/food commercial, pet and motorsports photography.

At it's fastest, the P2400 has a flash duration of 1/17,800s (T0.1) (though no HSS), making for more control in tougher environments with lots of ambient lighting, ensuring you still get a crisp, clean frozen shot.

The P2400 also has a much lower recycle time at full power, reaching a maximum of 0.7s recycle time between flashes at full output, whereas the AD1200Pro can take up to 2s to recycle ready for the next flash at full power.

Receiver Options

While the AD1200Pro uses the standard built-in 2.4GHz receiver in line with other AD range flashes on the Godox X-System, the P2400 has two receiver options. With both a 2.4GHz receiver built in, plus a 433MHz receiver, the P2400 can be switched over with ease, and is also compatible with a wider range of triggers.

The 433MHz receiver option allows you to avoid interference when shooting at further distances from your lights, around items nearby that might communicate on similar frequencies, or at events, making it easier for you to enjoy a more reliable shooting environment.

The P2400 also supports physical connection with sync cords, allowing you to avoid any interference and maintain the sync speed without delay even under extreme conditions.

Battery vs Mains Flash

The AD1200Pro is the best suited out of the two for location work, thanks to it's battery pack design, as well as it's AC-Adapter option (Available separately). The pack can achieve up to 500 full powered flashes per charge, making it a robust option and great for long shoots.

Comparatively, the P2400 is a studio pack only, meaning it can only be powered by AC adapter. While it could be used on location with appropriate mains power, the high output of the pack makes it difficult to use with portable power options, and so best used in studio environments.

Extra Accessories

Both flashes have the option for additionally available ring flash attachments to be used with the packs, if the standard flash head isn't going to cut it for you. The ring flashes have the benefit of allowing on-axis lighting from the front of your camera, as well as the classic ring-shape light effect which can produce flattering catchlights in eyes for portraits.

Summary

If you're looking for action-freezing shooting on-location, the AD1200Pro is your best option thanks to it's battery pack and high speed sync features. For shooting in studio environments with super fast flash durations, the P2400 is a great option with it's 2,400w output and multiple receivers.
