Godox iM30 vs Godox iM30Pro: Lets explore what’s new!

The Godox iM30 is back with an exciting upgrade! The new Godox iM30 Pro builds on the simplicity of its predecessor, offering improved functionality, greater creative control, and more convenient features.

Whether you love spontaneous street photography, nostalgic portraits, or need an everyday flash, let's explore what has stayed the same and what’s changed.

Original Godox iM30 Flash	New Godox iM30Pro Flash

What’s the Same?

Vintage-Inspired Photography: Both models deliver that timeless, direct-flash aesthetic for candid moments, retro-inspired portraits, and character-rich event photography.

Compact & Portable: GODOX prioritizes convenience with its pocket-friendly flashes that offer a lightweight alternative to traditional speedlights without sacrificing output.

Hot-Shoe Mounting: Both feature a single-contact hot-shoe connection for compatible cameras with a standard hot shoe and centre contact.

Manual Control: Take charge of your lighting with adjustable flash power, whether you want a subtle touch of illumination or a stronger direct effect.

What’s Changed?

Tilt Feature: Say hello to bounce lighting! Unlike the original's fixed head, the iM30 Pro features an adjustable head that tilts up to 90°, letting you bounce light off ceilings for softer indoor portraits and more natural-looking results.

AUTO Flash Mode: The iM30 Pro introduces an AUTO flash mode to simplify exposure. By inputting your camera's aperture and ISO, the flash uses its own light sensor to determine output, helping you work efficiently as lighting changes.

Precise Power Range: While the original offers seven levels from 1/1 to 1/64, the iM30 Pro expands this to 1/1 through 1/128 with finer 1/3-stop adjustments for better ambient light balancing.

Built-in Colour Display: Confidently adjust using the Pro's new built-in colour display, removing the guesswork of dial positions.

Faster Recycling: Full-power recycling drops from roughly 3.6 seconds on the original to about 1.5 seconds on the Pro, keeping you ready for fast-moving moments.

Rechargeable Battery: Swapping AAA batteries for a built-in 700mAh lithium battery, the Pro delivers around 550 full-power flashes (up from ~230) and eliminates the need for carrying spares.

Weight & Portability: The original weighs roughly 78g (without batteries), while the Pro weighs about 121g due to its added features and built-in battery.

Conclusion

At £39.99 RRP, The Godox iM30 Pro brings greater flexibility, faster performance, and smart controls while keeping a compact footprint. If you want a simple, ultra-lightweight flash for nostalgic direct-flash shots, the original iM30 remains a brilliant, lightweight option if you own it already. However, if you are ready to explore bounce lighting, enjoy faster recycling, and benefit from automatic exposure and a rechargeable battery, the iM30Pro is a worthwhile step up!

Same compact creativity. More control. More possibilities.
