The Ulanzi FT16 is a compact camera flash designed to combine automatic TTL flash, manual lighting control and continuous LED illumination in one portable unit.
TTL metering automatically adjusts flash output to help achieve a balanced exposure without having to set the flash power manually. Flash exposure compensation can be adjusted across ±3 EV in 0.3 EV increments when more control is required.
For photographers who prefer manual control, the FT16 provides flash power adjustment from 1/128 through to full 1/1 power. Its GN16 output provides additional illumination for portraits, street photography, backlit subjects and low-light shooting.
The FT16 also incorporates a 3W continuous LED light with an adjustable 2500K–6500K colour temperature range, making it useful for both stills and video.
The FT16 is suited to photographers and content creators looking for a small, portable lighting option for compatible Sony cameras. Its combination of TTL automation, manual flash, continuous illumination and optical slave modes makes it particularly useful for portraits, street photography, everyday photography, vlogging and compact multi-light setups.

The FT16 has a GN16 guide number and a flash colour temperature of 6800K ±10%. It can provide additional illumination in low-light and backlit conditions, while the supplied frosted white filter can be used to soften the light.
The light can be switched between TTL, Manual and Continuous modes.
In Manual mode, flash output is adjustable from 1/128 to full 1/1 power in 0.3-stop increments, giving photographers direct control over the amount of flash used.
The continuous LED mode provides up to 3W output with a 2500K–6500K adjustable colour temperature and 0–100% brightness control.
In flash mode, the continuous assist light can also be switched on to help with focusing in darker environments.
S1 and S2 optical triggering is available in Manual mode for off-camera and multi-light setups.
S1 uses the built-in light sensor to trigger the FT16 when it detects another flash.
S2 is designed for systems that use a pre-flash, triggering the FT16 on the second flash rather than the initial pre-flash.
The FT16 is not compatible with the Ulanzi LA10 Mini Trigger.
The independent flip design allows the light angle to be adjusted, providing greater flexibility when directing fill light onto a subject.
At full power, the FT16 has an approximate recycle time of 1.8 seconds. Continuous flash shooting is available at 1/32 power and below, helping with faster sequences where lower flash output is suitable.
The built-in continuous light provides adjustable colour temperature from 2500K to 6500K, with brightness adjustable from 0–100%.
Maximum illuminance is 240 lux at 0.5m when set to 6500K. Battery life is approximately 110 minutes at 100% continuous-light brightness.
Three magnetic filters are supplied: Frosted White, Orange and Yellow. These can be quickly attached to modify the character or colour of the light for portraits, video and creative photography.
The integrated 800mAh, 7.4V, 5.92Wh battery provides approximately 500 flashes at full power.
Charging is via USB-C with a 5V / 1.5A input, with a full charge taking approximately 90 minutes.
The FT16 combines several lighting functions in a compact unit weighing approximately 150g. TTL provides quick automatic exposure when speed matters, while manual flash control offers more precise adjustment for considered lighting setups.
Continuous LED illumination adds flexibility for video, focusing assistance and situations where constant light is preferable. S1/S2 optical slave support also allows the FT16 to be incorporated into compatible off-camera multi-flash setups.
