SwitPL-E90D 3rd Generation Natural-Born-Soft TLCI-99 90W LED Panel Light

The SWIT PL-E90D is a portable 90W bi-colour LED panel designed to produce broad, soft and evenly distributed light for interviews, field production and broadcast studio work. Rather than positioning its LEDs conventionally behind the front panel, the PL-E90D uses 480 edge-mounted SMD LEDs together with SWIT's 90° light-guide technology. This arrangement helps create a slim fixture while directing the light forwards across the panel for soft, even illumination.

Output reaches 2200 lux at 1 metre, with a 70° effective beam angle. Colour temperature is continuously adjustable from 2700K to 6500K, allowing the panel to move from warm tungsten-style lighting through to cooler daylight. With CRI 98 and TLCI 99, 0–100% flicker-free dimming, DMX512 control and 11–36V DC operation, the PL-E90D is equipped for both portable location kits and controlled studio lighting setups.

How it works

Edge-mounted LEDs for naturally soft light

The PL-E90D uses 480 SMD LEDs positioned around the inner edge of the light frame rather than placing the LEDs directly behind the front surface. SWIT's light-guide system uses precisely positioned laser dots on the reflection glass to redirect the edge light forwards at 90°. This allows the fixture to maintain a slim profile while producing a broad and evenly distributed output. For interviews and video production, the result is a large, soft source designed to provide flattering, even coverage without requiring a deep light body.

2200 lux at 1 metre

Despite its slim design, the PL-E90D produces 2200 lux at 1 metre from the centre of the fixture. The effective beam angle is 70° at the 50% boundary, providing broad coverage suitable for subjects, interviews and studio environments.

2700K–6500K bi-colour adjustment

Colour temperature can be continuously adjusted from 2700K to 6500K. This wide range allows the light to work with warmer interior lighting, daylight-balanced sources and mixed lighting environments without needing separate tungsten and daylight fixtures.

CRI 98 and TLCI 99

The PL-E90D is rated at CRI 98 and TLCI 99, providing high colour rendition for camera-based production. Accurate colour reproduction is particularly important for skin tones, products and other subjects where maintaining natural colour on camera can reduce the need for corrective work later.

0–100% flicker-free dimming

Brightness can be adjusted continuously from 0–100% using PWM digital dimming. This allows output to be balanced to the scene without physically moving the fixture or adding additional diffusion simply to reduce intensity.

LCD display and quick adjustment

The rear LCD displays key operating information including:

• Remaining battery indication

The adjustment controls also provide a faster way to make larger changes. Pressing the dimmer knob switches adjustment from 1% to 10% steps. Pressing the colour-temperature knob changes from 50K increments to commonly used presets of 2700K, 3200K, 4500K, 5600K and 6500K.

DMX512 control

The PL-E90D features standard 5-pin DMX input and output connections and supports the DMX512 protocol. Brightness and colour temperature can both be controlled from a DMX controller, with each function occupying one DMX address. DMX addresses can be set from 001 to 512. This provides more convenient centralised adjustment when the PL-E90D is incorporated into a larger studio or production lighting setup.

Multi-light interaction control

The PL-E90D also offers a CH interaction mode for controlling multiple connected fixtures without a separate DMX controller. Lights can be connected using DMX cables and assigned the same CH address. Adjusting one light then controls the other connected PL-E90D fixtures using that same address. Up to 512 CH addresses can be selected.

Flexible AC and battery power

The PL-E90D operates across a wide 11–36V DC input range and includes a 4-pin XLR DC connection. It can also operate from batteries using its battery plate, with V-mount supplied as the standard configuration. This provides flexibility between studio mains-powered operation and portable location lighting. An AC-DC adaptor is included.
