Simulating Natural Light with Richard Bradbury
Natural Light VS Flash… It is a common term thrown around in this industry like they should be mortal enemies. Both are awesome and both need to be understood as a working photographer today.
The Pixapro 160cm (63”) Black/Silver Deep Parabolic reflective bounce umbrella with a diffuser is an economical way to modify your lighting. This umbrella is perfect for Photographers or videographers who are looking for an economical way to illuminate their projects. Great for portraits, weddings, events, as well as for fashion and beauty work. It is also great for photographing large groups. Due to its 16-faceted design, it produces more natural looking round catchlights in the eyes of your subject.
Unlike traditional reflective umbrellas, this one has a deep, parabolic design which focuses the light for greater efficiency, less spill, and more control over the direction of light. Due to the parabolic nature of this umbrella, you also have limited control of the focus of the light, by adjusting the position of your light source along the umbrella’s shaft to achieve the look that you desire.
The Pixapro Black/Silver Parabolic reflective bounce umbrella produces a soft yet specular quality of light. Suitable for use with Speedlites, Studio strobe flashes or with continuous fluorescent or LED. Suitable for use both outdoors on location, and indoors in the studio.
This umbrella comes with removable diffusion material, for times when you would like the lighting from the umbrella to be a little more even, which produces super-soft, super diffused lighting, great for photographing large groups.
This style of umbrella is designed to that the light is pointed away from your subject, then the light is reflected towards your subject producing a broad soft light source, with a specular quality. The umbrella features a highly reflective silver-coloured surface for maximum light efficiency. The black outer-surface prevents light from leaking through the umbrella’s surface, and to absorb any unwanted light from being reflected onto your subject.
The Pixapro Black/Silver Parabolic reflective bounce umbrella features a lightweight 16-ribbed fibreglass frame with an 8mm metal shaft, which makes it suitable for use with most brands of lights. Its fibreglass frame makes the umbrella more durable, and less susceptible to being bent out of shape like traditional metal-framed umbrellas sometimes can. The umbrella’s surface is made from high-quality nylon for durability. The Umbrella collapses down for easy storage and transportation.

Great build quality for the price
Really good build quality for the price. I always cut the umbrella shaft down so as to be able to get the umbrella in very close to my subject. I found that there is a 'support' shaft within the umbrella shaft (see photo), which makes the umbrella shaft much stronger. Less lickly to pinch and bend in the wind. Fiberglass (?) arms so they should take a bit of abuse when the umbrella falls over. Over all I am very happy and I would buy again.
