This 120cm octagonal easy open umbrella softbox has everything you love in a traditional softbox but with the ease of use and setup of an umbrella. This uniquely designed softboxes are made with the on-location photographers in mind.
The opening mechanism within the softbox is designed for quick and easy set-ups, opening like a regular umbrella, it expands into a square softbox. It will save you precious time, it also has well constructed frame, which is very sturdy, particularly well-suited for outdoor and on-location use.
The interior walls have a highly reflective silver lining to bounce and reflect all the light towards your subject with no spill.Front and rear diffusers can be used as required for more precise positioning and feathering. The softbox also includes a removable honeycomb grid to better control light spill. The honeycomb grid, also called egg crate, will result in a narrower spread of light which can be positioned directly onto the subject without light spilling on the background. The grid is very simple to attach using the wide Velcro strips on the inside of the softbox. The honeycomb is 40mm x 40mm , which is also 40mm deep. The honey comb cells are much deeper than most and hold their shape extremely well.
This umbrella softbox can also be packed down into a carry bag when not in use.

How do I prevent the fabric from coming away from my Umbrella Softbox Frame?
- Sometimes if you hold your Umbrella Softbox by the fabric, the fabric will come away from the frame of the softbox.
To prevent this from happening, look for the Velcro strips located near the centre of the umbrella Softbox, and wrap them around the spokes (as shown in the images below) to prevent the fabric from coming away again
Why would you use an Octagonal Softbox over a traditional square/rectangular softbox?
- Octagonal boxes (or Octaboxes) and Traditional softboxes pretty much work in the same way, but due to their octagonal shape, Octaboxes focus the light a little better than a square or rectangular softbox does, giving you a slightly better light output. Octagonal softboxes also produce more pleasing round catch lights in the eyes of your subjects.
What are the Egg Crates/Honeycomb grids used for?
- The Honeycomb grids (sometimes referred to as Egg Crates) are used to control the spread of light. The smaller the grid, the more concentrated the beam will be. These are ideal if you don’t want the light to spill onto certain parts of your set such as the background.
What is the difference between setting up the deep para and umbrella softbox?
To set up the Deep Para softbox, you must simply push down each rod until they lock into place. To fold the Deep Para Softbox down you would again just need to push down on each rod and release the lock.

To set up the Umbrella softbox, you simply have to push down central plate in the middle until it locks into place. To fold the Umbrella softbox down you would need to push down on central locking mechanism this will then allow you to fold the softbox.

Would this softbox be compatible with the Daylite4 fluorescent lights
- Unfortunately as the Daylite4 lights have a unique fitting this will not fit these lights I'm afraid.

Superb even light across the surface, which makes a difference. Much better than cheapo softboxes from China. Softboxes with uneven light don't give me the look I want most of the time. Similar difference from umbrellas to softboxes. There's a small difference, which is important for some people.
Great build quality. Holds up to a very surprising amount of abuse.
Bowens mount, fits all my big lights.
Cons:
The one exception is the locking pin that holds the umbrella open. Because the fabric is so tight on the 120cm model, the large amount of pressure on the pin can break it, but if you're careful when opening and closing it shouldn't be an issue. Pixapro has superb customer service, so when mine broke they sent me a new pin the next day. (easy to replace in 30 seconds, it just screws into place by hand, no tools needed.)

Firstly, just check what size you need! I ordered the 120cm softbox and even that was HUGE! You'll need a lot of depth when in use, but I was actually extremely impressed with the simple set up using the umbrella system - A huge timesaver compared to the Profoto alternative. And the quality/output is on par with the big brands out there. Highly recommend...

Easy open well worth the extra cost although on this particular model, the push down part is very hard to push down and release with one hand, 8n fact I had to get someone to release the catch while I pushed down. That aside, an excellent softbox
