The Godox V100 Speedlight vs the Godox V1 Pro

A popular option, roundhead speedlite flashes carry a lot of benefits thanks to their round flash head style which allows for a more natural round light fall-off and has a magnetic modifier mount which you can easily snap compact mini magnetic modifiers too. Until now, the only Godox option for a roundhead speedlite has been the V1, and the more recent V1 Pro models, but no longer! Introducing the brand new Godox V100 Speedlite. We've compared the V100 and the V1 Pro below so you don't have to.

Similarities

Both the V100 and the V1 Pro speedlites have the following identical features:

  • Same flash duration (1/300s to 1/20,000s)
  • Manual/Auto Zoom of 28-105mm
  • Flash Exposure Compensation
  • Sync Mode
  • Multi-Flash
  • Modelling Lamp Colour Temp
  • Detachable fill flash attachment
  • Up to 100 consecutive full powered shots each

Thanks to the identical round-head fitting, anyone with a V1/V1 Pro flash and/or roundhead modifiers can use the same modifiers interchangeably with the V100 too!

Differences

Power Output

One of the primary differences between the V100 and V1 Pro is the higher power output on the V100. While most of the other speedlite options are 76w and below from the Godox and PiXAPRO range, owing to their use as a compact on-camera flash most of the time, and many other brands have even lower 50-60w outputs. However, the higher output of the V100 allows users more flexibility over what and how they shoot, without having to compromise on size by upgrading to an off-camera flash!

Touch Screen

A major upgrade in design, the V100 now features a 2.3" full-colour touchscreen display which allows for easy visibility and quick settings changes including a one-tap TTL/Manual mode. Compared to the V1 Pro's standard LCD screen, this new display offers an intuitive alternative.

Recycle Times and Shots per Charge

Potentially part of the trade off for the upgraded features, the V100 has a slightly longer recycle time between flashes of 1.7s vs the V1 Pro's 1.5s, and also only reaches up to approx 400 full powered flashes on full charge, compared to the V1 Pro's 500 flashes.

With a slightly faster recycle time and more flashes per full battery charge, some users might find the V1 Pro a better option for their photography, depending on what you like to shoot.
