DigitalEyes.de, a German photography media, released the news of Tail 2 online. Here's what they had to say about the Tail 2's lens specifications:
- "The camera uses a 1/1.5-inch sensor with dual ISO, HDR, and phase-detection autofocus across all pixels. OBSBOT specifies this as having 50 megapixels, with a resolution of 8192 x 6144 pixels. This allows for additional digital zoom, resulting in a total of 12x hybrid zoom (equivalent to approximately 260 mm of a 35mm telephoto lens). However, these megapixels are not achieved when taking photos or videos. 4K is definitely the maximum, meaning both photos and videos can produce a maximum of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Video output occurs at a smooth 60 frames per second, which can be reduced if necessary. The maximum is 120 fps at 1080p. Slow-motion recordings can be created from these recordings. The image quality is truly very decent; we were able to confirm this for ourselves. A test will follow in the next few days, as OBSBOT has kindly provided us with a test device."

As we can see, the Tail 2 is getting a lot of positive attention, and rightfully so. The original OBSBOT Tail Air was also a ground-breaking product, receiving its own share of positive reviews. However, it did face some criticism in certain areas, including the lack of an optical zoom, limited connectivity options, low-light performance issues, and a shorter battery life. Thankfully, OBSBOT listened to this feedback and, as a result, the Tail 2 has seen significant improvements in these key areas, addressing many of the previous concerns.
The Tail 2 now offers a 5x optical zoom and 2.4x digital zoom, delivering a total of 12x hybrid zoom. It also provides professional-grade connectivity options, including SDI, NDI, HDMI, and UVC. The low-light performance has been enhanced with 12 optical lenses and a large 1/1.5" CMOS sensor, allowing for better brightness capture and reduced chromatic aberrations. Whether in bright or low light, the Tail 2 ensures exceptional image quality and colour accuracy. On battery power, it provides up to 5 hours of continuous operation on a full charge, a significant improvement over the Tail Air, which offered around 2.5 hours of continuous use when shooting 1080p at 30fps.
Overall, the Tail 2 stands out as one of the best cameras currently available on the market. When you take its price into consideration, it offers exceptional value for money. You're not only getting top-tier performance but also a wide range of advanced features that make it a highly cost-effective choice for both professionals and enthusiasts alike.
