Profoto Lights vs Godox Alternatives: Finding the Right Lighting for Your Photography

When it comes to professional photography lighting, Profoto has long been regarded as an industry standard. Known for reliability, precision, and exceptional build quality, Profoto lights are a top choice for many studios and commercial photographers. However, the premium pricing often makes them less accessible for enthusiasts, freelancers, or growing studios.

Enter Godox; a brand that has rapidly grown in popularity by offering high-quality, affordable lighting solutions that rival their Profoto counterparts, making it easier than ever to build a professional setup without breaking the bank.

In this blog, we’ll compare some of the most popular Profoto lights with their Godox equivalents, helping you choose the right option for your needs and budget that can also fill the gap in ex-Profoto setups.

Profoto A2 vs Godox AD100Pro

  • Profoto A2: A super compact 100ws flash, the A2 is a perfect pocket-sized lighting solution, with HSS and a 1/8000s flash duration. With AirX connectivity, you can shoot with any camera, and shoot with a 10-stop power range, making for a super handy portable lighting option.

  • Godox AD100Pro: A similarly-sized 100ws flash, though slightly lighter, the AD100Pro has a magnetic modifier mount built-in, and similar 1/8000s flash duration, as well as HSS/TTL capabilities. Though it can only be controlled via compatible trigger, the AD100Pro is still a more than suitable option for those looking for an A2 alternative.
