Comparing the Godox MS200V with the PiXAPRO LUMI200 Flash

Whether you’re new to the world of photography and wanting to transform your home studio, or a seasoned professional upgrading your current equipment, great studio lighting is there to take you to the next level. Here we’re going to look at some of our studio strobe lighting; The Godox MS200V and the PiXAPRO LUMI200 flashes to see which one would help to bring your current setup to life.

THE GODOX MS200V

With a maximum power of 200Ws, The MS200V boasts a relatively powerful level of lighting, along with being super lightweight and compact, measuring a mere 12.6 x 16.7 x 28.3cm, allowing the unit to be small but impactful. With just a mains cable in sight, you never have to worry about battery life.

The MS200V uses the ever-popular Bowens S-Type Bayonet fitting making it compatible with a wide range of our light modifiers such as Beauty Dishes, Softboxes, Reflectors and more.

With a recycling time of 1.8 seconds at full power, this means you can ensure you never miss those key moments, and with an audible flash-ready tone, you can be certain that your flash is ready to go, ready to capture your next favourite photo to add to your collection.

THE PIXAPRO LUMI200

The PiXAPRO LUMI200 (Or the GS200II) is an award-winning studio light, a great piece of equipment when transitioning from Speedlite to studio flash, as it offers around 3x more power than your standard flashgun.

With features like a built-in receiver, slave mode, fast recycling time and flash durations, The LUMI200 is a staple in any photographers’ setup. With its automatic temperature-controlled ventilation, the cooling fan will kick in when you’re shooting frequently, to ensure the flash stays protected when running at higher temperatures.

The LUMI200 is also a part of The One System, allowing you to mix and match this light with any of our PiXAPRO flashes, and be in full control of all of these with just one receiver, compatible with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus & Pentax.

Includes:

1x LUMI200 II Studio Flash Head

Similarities:

Both studio lights have a few key features, including:

  •          Bowens S-Type Modifier Fitting
  •          Built-In 2.4GHz Flash Receiver
  •          Mains Powered
  •          Fast Recycling Times
  •          200W Power
  •          Precise power output adjustment allowing for more control and detail over your lighting

The Key Differences:

Both lights offer a few differences to separate themselves from one another:

The MS200V

The MS200V has a slightly faster recycle time of 0.1s + compared to the older PiXAPRO LUMI200 flash's recycle rate of 0.3s +. If you're looking to shoot faster with shorter gaps between your flashes, the MS200V may be your best option for making the most of those easy-to-miss moments.

If you’re looking for something more lightweight but can still provide good illumination due to the higher guide number, the MS200V is the light for you. The MS200V has a 10w LED modelling bulb, providing a good amount of efficiency and running a lot cooler than a halogen modelling bulb as seen on the LUMI200. When adjusted to a halogen equivalent, the MS200V equals about 75w in power.

The LUMI200

If you’re looking for something larger, with a more powerful modelling bulb, letting you see how the shadows fall much easier, the LUMI200 would be a welcome addition to your current equipment. The LUMI200 also presents with a slightly lower colour temperature of 5600 ± 200K than the MS200V’s 5800±200K, meaning the appearance (or tint) of the light will present as slightly warmer (yellowish-white light) than the MS200V.

The LUMI200 also boasts a Power output control of 1/32 over the MS200V’s 1/16, allowing you much more control over the strength of the flash itself, allowing you to be that much more precise and get that perfect shot you’re looking for. The LUMI200 also has a 150w Halogen modelling bulb, providing more power than the MS200v’s 10w LED modelling bulb.

Regardless of which light you would go ahead with, one thing is for certain; the quality of both flashes will leave you amazed, and the results of using these products even more so.
