Comparing Powerful RGB Film LED Lighting - M1000R, MG1200R, MG2400R
With the expanding Godox KNOWLED range comes a wider selection of versatile, powerful LED lighting designed for film and television production purposes, with high output and high colour fidelity. The recent addition of the new MG2400R marks the third powerful RGB COB LED to the collection, but what sets these three lights apart, and which one should you be choosing for your upcoming production? Find our full comparison right here with a specs breakdown so you can make your choice.

Power
One of the most important differences between these three lights is the power output range, and therefore effective brightness that each unit can produce. At just over the 1000w mark, the M1000R is the least powerful of the three, yet is still remarkably powerful, moreso than most COB LEDs on the market, making it a great choice for most productions. The MG1200R sit in the middle with a maximum power output of 1,600w, giving it a bit more punch than the M1000R, a difference that can have a big impact on the right production.
The most powerful of the three, and the most powerful RGB COB LED light on the market, the MG2400R has a maximum output of approximately 2,600w, making it the go-to option for gaffers and cinematographers who need maximum control and brightness on-set, with the approximate to a traditional 4K HMI light.
Modifier Fitting
The other major difference between these lights is the modifier fitting. With a standard, common Bowens S-Type fitting, the M1000R is the most accessible option to filmmakers, being compatible with modifiers that are popular and easily found.
The MG1200R and MG2400R, hence the "G" in the model names, are constructed with the specially designed Godox G-Mount instead. Separate from the "Godox Mount", the G-Mount is a larger scale version of the Bowens S-Type style fitting, designed to be sturdier and therefore more suitable and safe for the heavy, large MG Range lights.
G-Mount modifiers also have the benefit and addition of being constructed with electrical contacts inside, that allow the light to recognise not only what modifier is attached (and so can adjust accordingly), but can also recognise when a modifier is removed and turn off the LED Chip for easy setup changes.

CRI/TLCI
An indicator of colour fidelity. the CRI and TLCI rate the accuracy of the colour set on the unit. Too low, and this rating means more post-production grading to get the colour you need.
All three units have high ratings of around 95 and upwards, with the MG1200R and MG2400R having the highest of 96+ CRI and 95+ TLCI each, making them more than sufficient for broadcast television usage.
At 95+ CRI and 94+ TLCI, the M1000R is a slight bit lower in rating, owing to it's being less designed for high-grade and large-scale film production.
Size & Weight
By far the smallest, the M1000R is the most portable at approximately 20x12cm. At approx 8kg, while heavy, it is also light enough to be operated by one person.
The MG1200R, surprisingly, is only 1kg heavier, despite it's larger frame of 40x58cm, which reflects it's design and G-Mount modifier, as well as a heavy duty fan to keep the unit cool.
Though a similar size at 41x39cm, the MG2400R is over twice as heavy, at 21kg for the light body alone. A much more heavy duty option due to the internals, which makes it best for professional productions and sets with the right rigging equipment.
Price
All these features therefore culminate in a difference in pricing for these lights, which clearly helps to set them apart. At £2,999.00 RRP, the M1000R is aimed towards professional markets, with the price reflecting the lower output. At £4,949.00 RRP, the MG1200R may seem like a large difference in cost for an increase of 200w, however this price also reflects the specialised modifier fitting and higher colour accuracy which make the difference for those looking for a more high-end unit.
The MG2400R sits at an RRP of £7,926.00, reflecting it's super high output and design.
Similarities
Thanks to all three lights being from the same core KNOWLED Range and designed for similar purposes, the three have many very similar features. This includes an identical weather ingress rating of IP54 (Protection against dust as well as moderate jets of water and rain), the same CCT colour range, built-in effects, colour modes, dimming, control options and more. This means these lights are easy to use if you've got an adjacent model.
