Description

The PIXAPRO STORM II 600 (Godox QT600IIM), is a High-Speed Studio Flash that uses Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) technology to achieve extremely short flash durations, as well as ultra-fast recycle times, which allows you to capture motion such as dancing, jumping and even water splashes with ease.

The IGBT Technology used in the STORM II 600, allows it to behave in a similar manor to most speedlites, where the flash durations become progressively shorter and shorter, as the flash power is decreased. The PIXAPRO® STORM II 600 can achieve flash durations of up to 1/28, 984 second. The IGBT technology also allows for super-fast recycling times. At full, power, the recycle times are similar to that of a regular flash head of its type at 1.2 seconds. As you start to reduce the power however, the recycle-times become faster and faster, with recycle times as fast as 0.05 seconds, which is fast enough to keep up with the Multi-Bust mode on most of DSLR cameras currently on the market. This feature allows you to capture a series of images in quick succession, giving you a higher chance of capturing the perfect shot. Great capturing subjects in motion, such as Dancers, Athletes and Martial Artists etc.

The STORM II 600 features a user-friendly interface, with large LCD screen, which enables you to quickly and easily change your flash settings. It features a variety of different flash modes including a High-Speed Sync mode (up to 1/8000 sec), and a multi-flash mode, which can be set to between 2 and 100 flashes at a frequency between 1 and 99Hz (flashes per second), which allows you to create many different effects such as stroboscopic photography.

The PIXAPRO® STORM II 600 features a built-in 2.4GHz ST-III receiver, which allows it to be used in conjunction with the optional ST-III TTL, or ECO 2.4 flash Triggers. This allows you to control your flash heads remotely, removing the need to go up and individually adjust every light in your set up, saving you precious time.

The PIXAPRO STORM II 600 uses an S-Type accessory mount, making it compatible with a wide range of accessories and modifiers. This compact and lightweight flash is perfect for people who shoot weddings, portraits, fashion, and for advertising. It is especially good for shooting children.

Stroboscopic Flash Mode

The Stroboscopic Flash feature causes your STORM II 600 to fire multiple low-powered flashes in rapid succession. Combined with a slow shutter speed, you are able to capture a sequence of im-ages of a moving subject in  one exposure such as the one in the photo above.

Reviews for PIXAPRO STORM II 600 High-Speed Flash Head (QT600II)

Not disappointed. Good Product

Purchased this strobe about 2-3 weeks ago and wanted to put this product to the test before I wrote my review. So far so good. I'd recommend mounting this strobe a solid C stand as it weighs a few kgs along with a softbox. Two little annoyance that I have notice but not enough to give it a four star. Firstly, the monolight has a habit of turning it's off sometimes. Unsure if this is a default setting and haven't figure out how to disable this feature yet. Second annoyance that I noticed is that if in Multi or HSS that after a photo, the settings can sometimes jump back to Manual. Again, unsure if this is a default setting that I can change.

Okay the positives. Very easy to use. You dial up the continous light power. It has Manual, HSS and Multi flash modes. Have snapped some good test photo at high shutter speeds.

Review taken from PIXAPRO Amazon Store.

What a light. Pixapro Storm II 600

I picked on of these heads up back in 2017 and after 3-4 months of use I can say its amazing. For £450 you get a lot of light and a lot of features.

Exposures are consistent as is colour (unless in speed mode, then it shifts a lot with power changes). I have mine and my trigger to work in 1/10th stop changes which woks great if you really need to dial in F11 or any other exposure.

The flash duration is really short which is a must if you are dealing with any movement or higher resolution cameras.

I will be adding 2 more heads to the studio when I can. Over all this whole range of lighting kit has been great and its nice to have everything in one eco system.

Questions & Answers

Answer:

When using a manual flash, you must set your camera to Manual Exposure Mode. From there you can control your flash exposure by either, adjusting the flash power on your flash head, adjusting your aperture, or your ISO.

Shutter speed doesn’t affect flash exposure, however, you are limited by your camera’s “sync Speed” as to what shutter speeds you can use (most cameras have a maximum sync speed of between 1/125th of a second, and 1/250th of a second – Please refer to your camera’s user manual for further details). Since the Storm II 600 has a High-Speed Sync (HSS) feature, you can use shutter-speeds faster than your camera's sync speed if you wanted to, provided you have a HSS compatible flash trigger

Whilst Shutter Speed doesn’t affect flash exposure, it can be used to control the amount of ambient light that appears in your final photograph. The more ambient light that you want to appear in your photograph, the slower your shutter speed should be. Alternatively, the less ambient light that you would like to appear in your photograph, the faster the shutter speed you should use.

A good starting point is to use a setting of ISO 100, f/8.0 with a shutter speed of 1/125 second, and then adjust your flash power, or camera setting according to your needs or taste

Answer:

The Masking Mode is found under custom function 3, and you can set up to 3x groups (n1, n2 and n3).

Once everything is set, the STORM II 600s mask groups will alternate depending on the groups of lights in sequence. For Example, n1 lights fire first, then on the next shot, the n2 lights etc.
