Product Information

The PIXAPRO PRO ST-III C is a 2.4GHz Radio flash trigger system capable of transmitting TTL information designed for use with CANON cameras and ETTL II Compatible flashes. The PIXAPRO PRO ST-III C trigger set has a transmission range of approximately 100m in an open area, and since the transmitter and receivers use radio waves as opposed to Infra-red, you don’t need direct line of sight, and is not affected by bright Sunlight which can sometimes cause problems with optical slave systems.

As well as the traditional CANON A:B C ratio style interface, the PIXAPRO PRO ST-III C also has a full GR Group style interface allowing up to 5 Groups to be individually set to either TTL, Manual, or Off. You also have the ability to mix TTL and Manual Groups if needed, which makes the PRO ST-III system very versatile. The ST-III system also has 32 separate channels, which enable you to use your ST-III trigger system in the vicinity of other photographers, without fear of accidentally triggering each other’s lights.

The PIXAPRO PRO ST-III C supports TTL, HSS (High Speed Sync) and even has a HSS Pre-sync Timing Adjustment feature, which is great for those times where you need to increase your shutter-speed beyond your camera’s sync speed.

It also features a PC sync cable socket enabling it to be used to trigger studio strobes, as well as a Micro USB port to enable you to update the ST-III’s Firmware as new technologies become available.

The perfect solution for the busy photographer who require a reliable TTL radio trigger system.

PLEASE NOTE: ST-III Trigger is designed for use with the CITI600TTL and Hybrid360 ETTL or ETTL II Flashes which have built-in ST-III receivers. Use with other flashes require a separate receiver.

Questions & Answers

You can use this trigger for Rear Curtain sync. To activate it, you have to go into the Custom Functions Menu.

Press and hold the "CH" button for a few seconds, and the Custom-functions menu should come up. Once in the Custom Functions menu, use the scroll wheel to go down to function 4, which will enable you to activate the Rear Curtain Sync mode.

Our flash triggers are not compatible with PocketWizard triggers unfortunately.

The Built-in flash trigger on the Sekonic Flash Meters, are also not compatible with our triggers, however you can still meter the flash by pressing the "TEST" button on the flash trigger. Most flash meters have a mode where it will wait a certain amount of time after the mesure button has been pressed for a flash to fire. Simply put your meter into this mode, press the "Measure" button on the meter, and then press the "Test" button on the trigger to fire the flash so you can get your exposure reading (Please refer to your flash meter's manual for more details).

Please see image below which shows which switch configurations represent which channels on the ST-III Trigger system. Please Note: Your ST-III must be set to manual mode to work with PRO AC 2.4GHz receiver. Not compatible with older 433MHz Receivers.

The 1/256th power setting isn’t available by default, you have to enable it in the Custom Functions menu (CFn). To enter the custom functions menu, press and hold the <CH> or <CH/OK> button (depending on which batch your trigger is from) for a few seconds and the custom functions menus should come up. Once in the Custom Functions menu, scroll to CFn. 5 and press the <GR> button, and the option will flash. Use the scroll wheel to select the 1/256 power setting, and then press the <GR> button again to set it. To go back to the main menu, press the <Menu> button.

Please contact us at customerservice@essentialphoto.co.uk, and then let us know which product you would like the firmware for, and then follow these steps.

  1. First download and install the G1 program which is required to upgrade the Firmware for All Pixapro Flashes and Triggers.
  2. Download the relevant Firmware Update file for the product you would like to upgrade the Firmware for.
  3. Open the G1 program, and click the "Select File" button and select the firmware file that corresponds to the product that you would like to upgrade.
  4. Connect the product to your computer using a micro USB cable (The same type used by most Android phones).
  5. Then click the “Connect” button in the G1 program to connect to the Pixapro Product. If connection is successful, a message will be displayed on the G1 program menu. If connection is unsuccessful, please check that the Micro USB cable is properly inserted, and/or is working.
  6. Once Connection is Successful, click the "Upgrade", and you will be prompted when the upgrade is complete. If Upgrade is unsuccessful please repeat process from step 3.
  7. Once the Firmware has been updated successfully, then click the “disconnect” button in the G1 Software, and then disconnect your product from your computer.

To restore your ST-III back to factory settings, press and hold the button whilst turning the Transmitter on.

You have to set the Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC) from the transmitter itself, and not the flash, however the FEC will not be displayed on the speedlite itself.

Please upgrade the firmware of your transmitter (ST-III C for Canon - V15 or later, ST-III N for Nikon - V16 or later, ST-III S for Sony - V13 or later). To activate the super close (30cm inside) trigger option, hold down the TEST button and switch on your ST-III trigger until the STATUS indicator flashes twice. After release, you can access this option from the wireless remote control 0-30 meters.

It sounds like your camera may be set to Red-Eye Reduction mode. When in this mode, your speedlite will rapidly flash which is used to close the pupils of your subject to reduce or eliminate red-eye). Please ensure that the Red-Eye reduction is disabled in your camera settings

The Auto-Zoom feature will only work when trigger is flash is set to auto (A) mode. The Auto zoom is disabled when use in manual (M) mode.

There are many different reasons which could cause the ST-III triggers to misfire. Here is a list of the possible causes:

  • The transmitter battery is low: In this situation make sure there is sufficient battery power to power the ST-III transmitter. Check the display to ensure that the “Low battery” icon is not blinking.
  • The receiver battery is low: In this situation make sure there is sufficient battery power to power the ST-III receiver. Check the display to ensure that the “Low battery” icon is not blinking.
  • Since the ST-III uses a 2.4GHz frequency, other devices that use a similar frequency (such as 2.4GHz wifi routers, Bluetooth devices, etc.) can interfere with communication between the ST-III triggers, and cause misfires. If there any similar devices in the vicinity of the triggers, try switching channels, which should hopefully resolve the problem.
  • Make sure that the flash ready indicator is lit, and not in thermal protection or any other abnormal state.
  • Try updating the Firmware on the ST-III Triggers and/or Receivers.

To check which version of the Firmware Version you have installed on your ST-III trigger: Switch the power off, then press and hold the button, and then switch the power back on whilst still holding the button.

To check which version of the Firmware Version you have installed on your ST-III Receiver: Switch the power off, then press and hold the button, and then switch the power back on whilst still holding the button.

Your Current Firmware Version should then be displayed on the screen like as shown in the photograph below.

The Hot Shoe on the trigger allows you to use a feature known as TTL Pass-Through, which enables you to use your ST-III trigger and a TTL speedlite on camera simultaneously. Perfect for times when you still need a speedlite on camera as a fill light etc.

No, that doesn't work unfortunately. The master flash requires some kind of physical connection to the camera’s hot shoe in order for that to work. You can either sit the master flash directly on the camera’s hot shoe, or use an off-camera TTL flash cord.

The only way around it would be to use one of the following solutions:

  • Place a speedlite, set to master mode on top the ST-III trigger’s hot shoe, whilst the ST-III trigger is on camera.
  • Purchase another ST-III receiver for the other speedlite.
  • Purchase an Off Camera TTL cable for the Master flash to sit on.

To use the Multi-Flash Setting with your ST-III Flash Triggers, please follow these steps:

  1. To Set-up multi-flash function on your ST-III trigger set, keep pressing the button until the TTL and M icons are not displayed on the LCD (As shown in the photo below). Once that has been done, press and hold the Button to enter multi flash setting submenu.

  2. Once in the Multi-Flash submenu, two lines displayed as T (for the amount of flashes) and H (for the flash frequency in Hz) should appear as shown in the photo below.

  3. Press the Button to make the “T” value blink. Once blinking, you are able to set the amount of flashes according to your needs by using the wheel.
  4. Press the Button again to change the “H” value.
  5. Once your Multi-Flash settings have been set, Press the Button to exit the Multi-Flash settings screen
  6. In the multi flash setting submenu, press the Button to return to main menu. Multi Flash Settings (Output Value)
    1. In the multi flash (TTL and M icon are not displayed), press the Button to set the current group.
    2. In multi flash mode, you will be unable to exceed 1/4 power as the flash units can’t do multi-flash with output settings higher than ¼ power.

You can set Second curtain sync (rear curtain sync) ON and OFF on the ST-III transmitter by doing the following:

Press and hold the “CH” button for 2 seconds or longer until “Fn” is displayed on the transmitter’s LCD screen. Select the custom function No.

Turn the Select Dial to choose the Custom Function No.4

To Change the Settings.

  • Press “GR” button until the custom function No. blinks.
  • Turn the Select Dial to set the desired number. Press “GR” button to confirm the settings.
  • Press “MODE” button to exit the Customs Functions Setting.

Fn 04 00 means Second curtain sync(rear curtain sync) OFF

Fn 04 01 means Second curtain sync(rear curtain sync) ON

The Pro ST-III triggers aren’t cross compatible with our current generation of Pro AC, Pro ST-I or Pro ST-II triggers unfortunately. The ST-III use a 2.4GHz signal, whereas the others use a 433MHz signal.

The ST-III triggers should work with no problems, though you would require a ST-III receiver for each of your Li-Ion TTL speedlites. You can also control the power of your Li-Ion TTL speedlites remotely.

Whilst you can use the ST-III to trigger these lights, you can’t remotely control the power of those flashes. In order to do that, you will require the PiXAPRO PRO AC Trigger set
