Product Information

The PIXAPRO® PowerCore 600+ Portable Flash is everything that you loved about the PowerCore 600, but with a New and Improved Flash Head. This compact but powerful battery powered flash pack and head combination now comes with a slightly larger, more heavy-duty flash head which will enable it to be used in combination with larger and heavier modifiers making the PowerCore 600+ more versatile than the previous model. The PowerCore600+ also features a built-in 12w LED modelling lamp which is brighter and more energy efficient than 20w Halogen modelling bulb that the PowerCore series flashes used previously. The PowerCore 600+ was designed with the photographer needs a small portable flash with the power of a studio flash in mind.

The PowerCore600+ behaves more similarly to a Pack and Head flash as opposed to a monolight flash, as everything is controlled from the PowerCore 600+ Power pack. The flash has a 6-Stop power range, from 1/1-1/32 power, which means you can either use it to over-power the sun, or use it as a fill light when using it outdoors. The pack is powered by a Large-capacity 8000mAh lithium (LiFePO4) rechargeable battery, which will give you approximately 450 full powered flashes per charge. The battery is interchangeable so if you need more flashes from your pack, you can bring along some extra batteries (extra batteries sold separately) and swap them over when the power gets low.

The PowerCore 600+ now comes with a new longer power cable which has be extended to 3m as opposed to the 1.9m of the previous generation PowerCore units, which gives you more flexibility, and enables you to mount the head to a boom stand whilst still keeping the pack on the floor. The PowerCore600+ head also comes supplied with a standard silver reflector, as well as a diffusion cap which can be placed over the front of the reflector.

This product is provided with a UK 3-Pin Power cable, if you require an EU power cable please notify us when purchasing your item.

Questions & Answers

Unfortunately the PowerCore600+ is not capable of high-speed sync, however you can get around this by using a Neutral Density (or ND) Filter on your lens, which will kill the amount of light entering your lens. ND filters are available in either fixed or variable varieties, and are usually rated in f-stops (e.g. a 2-stop filter will cut out 2-stops of light etc.). ND filters are available at most camera retailers.

For example: If your camera’s maximum flash sync speed is 1/200th of a second, and you would like to use an aperture of f/2.8 together with your flash, but the ambient light reads 1/1600th at f/2.8... You can use a 3-stop ND filter which will cut out 3-stops of light, then you can slow your shutter speed down by 3-stops to compensate for the light that the ND filter has cut out, bringing your shutter speed back down to your camera’s sync speed, which makes using flash possible again.

Please note: You will also have to make your flash 3-stops brighter to compensate for the ND filter.

The PowerCore600 has built-in overheating protection, which kicks-in when the circuitry reaches a certain temperature to prevent any permanent damage to the PowerCore600 Unit (If Overheat protection is active, a little thermometer icon will appear on the digital display screen). This mode usually activates when the flash is fired in quick succession at higher power settings (Full power, 1/2 power etc.). If the overheat protection is active, please allow approximately 10 minutes for the flash to rest and cool, and it should be fine again.

If you are required to shoot at a relatively fast rate, try opening up your aperture, or raising your ISO a couple of stops (e.g. 1/4 power at ISO400 instead of full power at ISO100), which will put less stress on your flash unit.
