The PIXAPRO LED100D MKII is everything that you loved about the original LED100D Daylight Balanced LED studio light, but better. The LED100D MKII is a 100W LED studio light which uses the latest High-Intensity Integrated LED technology with an equivalent brightness of 1000w halogen lamp, but uses only 10% of the energy, and runs a many times cooler than a halogen light would.

The LED100D MKII has high illuminance rating of approximately 10,800 Lux at 1m with the standard 7” Reflector or 58,600Lux @ 50cm (please note the modifier used will affect the illuminance). The LED100D MKII also has an improved CRI rating of ≥95 which will give you more accurate colour reproduction to your photographs and video footage. The Integrated LED chip has a lifespan of around 50,000 hours, which means they should serve you well for many years to come.

As well as the improved CRI rating, the LED100D MKII also features a smaller more compact body, and a new quieter cooling fan.

The LED100D MKII features a dimmer dial which enables you to control the brightness of the unit between 100-10% brightness. It also has a built-in 2.4GHz wireless radio remote receiver, which gives you the option to control up to 99 units with up to 10 different channels with the optional remote control (sold separately). The LED100D MKII features an S-Type accessory mount which enables you to use your LED100D MKII in conjunction with a multitude of S-Type fitting light modifiers that are available on the market.

The PIXAPRO® LED100D MKII is a powerful economical solution for both the hobbyist and the serious photographer or videographer.

PIXAPRO LED100D MKII Daylight Balanced LED Studio Light (Improved Colour)

I love these.

Color quality is great. Very accurate.
Great build quality.
Super bright, 13,000 LUX at 1m when used with the included bowl reflector.
Bowens accessory mount. Awesome for attaching pretty much any lighting modifier.
Pixapro's softboxes are superb. The 150cm easy-open is my favorite. The 120 is great too.

Smaller and lighter would be better.

Worth every penny.

PIXAPRO LED100D MKII Daylight Balanced LED Studio Light (Improved Colour)

I have got now 3 LED100D heads with Bowens mount. I use them with a fresnel (NanGuang NG10X € 50), an easy-open softbox 90cm (Pixapro) and barndoors Pixapro (the small one is OK) or the standard reflectors. The build quality is good, the color rendering as expected but the color temperature more close from 4200 K than the 5000 K expected but irrelevant when shooting in RAW. I measured exactly 100W power drawn : this led is aptly named. With the standard reflector, the power is enough for a background (perfect flood) 5 sq meters. With a fresnel, you can expect 2.8 - 1/100s - 200 ISO @3m. With a softbox 90cm, place it less than 2m far and with the grid in addition, less than 1m. Here - with grid on softbox - the limited power show its limits.

PIXAPRO LED100D MKII Daylight Balanced LED Studio Light (Improved Colour)

choose this product as I wanted a continuous light to shooting little new born babies and also when I worked with hairstylist in small spaces. the light was bright and silent and it was not hot. This light is bright, the website says F8 ISO 100 and 1/80 that is a bit miss leading as that is true I suppose at close distances but when you put soft box or umbrella that changes so anyways that is gone use this a remote distance light just consider the distance as this is good for 10 -15m use after that the light drop off is noticeable if you want to shoot with F8. if your having a umbrella at the front of this I would say 1/125 /F4 ISO 500 photography. video will be fine as you shoot at 1/50 ISO 300 - 600 and F2.8 - F6. what needs to be improved - The wireless controller should allow the light to be tunned on and off - when the light is turned on I should be able to change the brightness first not tinker with channels and group I can do that by pressing the button - the umbrella mounting metal was not bent inside properly so I had to unscrew that and bend it again so I could push my umbrella pole into the slot. - no thumb screw to lock umbrella or other accessories so there is chance if was windy outside your umbrella will go for a fly. - the actual led wire are exposed. they should be capped off. I would still buy this light as the cons can be fixed with DIY but at the price I am paying and now that they have release the version LED 200D, I hope they have fixed these issues I have mentioned above.

Wanted a more powerful continuous light than I had already and wanted to be able to use a brolly etc.

The lights are fantastic I saw it first on Ugly McGregor's channel on YouTube and then watched the review on Nisan Simantov's channel. I am using two of these as my keylight shot through a 1 stop scrim along with two Aputure 768 panels for fill. I wish I had seen these lights before, more light for the same price

Pixapro LED100D Daylight lights in use

Some time ago I decided to change from using traditional studio flash units and move over to LED continuous lights. I wanted to get LED’s that were an equivalent to my old system so that I could carry on using my collection of soft boxes, beauty dishes and shoots. After doing some research and a visit to The Photography Show at the NEC I discovered Pixapro LED100D MKII daylight heads and these came with the standard ‘S’ type fitting – perfect!

I have been using this for over a year now and found them to be excellent for the work I do in the studio and on location. From time to time I arrange a shoot that is just for the fun of it so when I was asked by a model friend of mine for some pregnancy ‘bump’ shots I arranged a little something special. I contacted Charlotte Madhoodi, a make-up artist and body painter, and gathered some props to create a kind of woodland bower in the studio in which to sit the ‘Earth Godess’ Oona.

Questions & Answers

We have tested the two lights together with the standard reflectors that they come with using a Sekonic C-700 meter (for LUX Readings) and a Sekonic L-358 Meter (for the F-Stop Reading at ISO100 - 1/80 Second), and the results we found were as follows:

Model Lux @ 0.5m Lux @ 1m F-Stop @ 1m
PiXAPRO LED100D MKII / MKII+ 35,800 Lux 8,400 Lux f/8.0
Aputure Storm 120D 18,500 Lux 4,660 Lux f/5.0

The noise level of the fan is less than 24dB. The fan speed remains consistent, meaning it will pretty easy to remove in post should your microphones manage to pick up the fan noise (which is unlikely unless your mic is positioned right next to the fan).

The LED100D MKII has a feature where you can re-orientate the mounting bracket so that your controls aren't upside down.

Please see the video below for instructions on how to do it.

We have performed some tests with the LED 100D MKII lights, and the results are as follows:

With the LED100D MKII set to full power with the standard reflectors:

  • At a Distance of 2m: f/5.6 1/60 Second ISO 100
  • At a Distance of 1m: f/8.0 1/60 Second ISO 100

LED 100D MKII set to full power with a softbox:

  • At a Distance of 2m: f/2.5 1/60 Second ISO 100
  • At a Distance of 1m: f/5.6 1/60 Second ISO 100

Please Note: These figues are approximate, and may vary slightly depending on the size and design of your softbox

The standard LED100D MKII cannot be upgraded to use a V-Mount Battery like the LED100D MKII+ unfortunately, because the internal circuitry in the LED100D MKII and in the LED100D MKII+ are completely different.

Yes, the LED100D can be used at voltages between 110V and 240V, so you should have no problems using them there.

The LED100D MKIIs come supplied with standard UK 3-Pin plugs. However they can still be used in the USA or Canada by either using an adapter, or by switching the power cable for one with a US/Canadian styled plug. The LED100D MKII uses a standard IEC320 connection (as seen in the photo below), so you should be able to pick them up from any good electronics retailer.

IEC320 Cable Connection

Yes, these lights should work fine. They have been tested at framerates of up to 900FPS with no issues. Please see footage below taken by Comvito Video & Photography using the LED100D series lights.
