Shooting Top Chefs with CITI600 & DeepPara Softbox - BTS With Chris Ord
A little look behind the scenes with Chris Ord on a commercial shoot with some of the North East's Top Chefs.
The PIXAPRO CITI 600 (Godox Wistro AD600BM) is a revolutionary battery-powered portable monolight that features a self-contained rechargeable Battery, the High-Speed Studio Powerful Stroboscopic Flash that uses Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) technology to achieve short flash durations, as well as fast recycle times, which allows you to capture fast motion such as dancing, jumping and even water splashes with ease. With a built-in receiver and a variety of different modes from HSS to the multi burst, it is perfect for people who shoot weddings, portraits, events, fashion, sports and advertising. It is especially good for shooting on location due to the flash being easily portable.
The powerful 600Ws CITI600 flash with a guide number of 87m has a 11.1V / 8700mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion battery pack giving approximately 500 full-powered shots per charge, perfect to keep you going throughout the shoot without the need for mains power. Since the CITI 600 utilises Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) technology, it is capable producing short flash durations of between 1/220 second to 1/10,000 second for sharper images whilst maintaining colour accuracy throughout its power range which opens up a whole world of possibilities.
With an automatic temperature-controlled ventilation system to ensure it is safe and protected when shooting frequently, this means that the cooling fan will kick in to protect the flash when running at high temperatures.
The CITI600 has a 600Ws flash tube that has an 9-stop power range (1/1 – 1/256 power) in 1/3rd stop power increments with super short recycling times between 0.01 and 2.5 seconds and 16 controllable groups and 32 different channels to provide maximum flexibility and control with your flash. It also includes a 10W LED modelling lamp which is equivalent to approximately100W tungsten but runs much cooler for longer usage time.
The CITI 600’s user-friendly interface, with large Dot-Matrix LCD screen, enables you to quickly and easily change your flash settings with the use of large, easy to access buttons and a control dial. It features a variety of different flash modes including a High-Speed Sync mode (up to 1/8000 sec) to help overpower the sun, and a multi-flash mode, which can be set to between 2 and 100 flashes at a frequency between 1 and 100Hz (flashes per second), which allows you to create many different effects such as stroboscopic photography. It also features an intelligent slave cell (Pre-flash detector system) cell that can be set to ignore a Pre-Flash, which enables the use of the CITI600 alongside speedlights or any other TTL strobe
The CITi600 manual features a built-in 2.4GHz flash receiver, which allows it to be used in conjunction with the PIXAPRO 2.4GHz flash Triggers. This allows you to control your flash heads remotely such as flash power settings, Modelling lamp on/off, changing groups & channels and Triggering. It’s part of The ONE System, which you can mix and match any PIXAPRO range flash. The universal flash is compatible with popular camera brands from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Fuji, Pentax with full control and even high-end cameras from Hasselblad, Leica and PhaseOne with basic control.
It uses an S-Type accessory mount, making it compatible with a wide range of accessories and modifiers. This compact and lightweight flash is perfect for people who shoot weddings, portraits, events, fashion, sports and advertising. It is especially good for shooting on location due to the flash being easily portable.
The PIXAPRO® CITi600 is a simple, easy-to-use battery powered unit which offers many features suitable for both amateur and professional photographers. This is the perfect light to give crisp sharp images whilst boasting super-fast recycle times and flash duration to capture motion for use in studio or on location.
The CITI600 three head boom kit comes with 3x CITI600 Flash heads, 2x lighting stands to support the flashes, 1x boom stand to position your lights overhead, great for a fill or hair light, 2x 60x90cm Softboxes to help control and soften the light, 1x 40” Translucent White Shoot-through Umbrella to bounce and soften the light reducing hard shadows, and a rolling wheel case for storing and transporting your kit in.
PLEASE NOTE: The High-Speed Sync feature on the CITI600 Manual requires either an ST-III, ST-IV, ECO 2.4 Trigger to work.

Great piece of kit
I have been using the city600 for over a year, great on location, no fussing around with heavy bulcky battery packs, and with the remote flash head it makes a joy to use on stands, and the body doubles up as counterweight, also nicely controllable via the remote ....

Excellent
I've always used Bowens and was about to purchase their new XMT system as I need to use them in both the studio and on location.
When Bowen's went bust, I was really unsure what direction to go in and after a lot of research, reading reviews etc. I decided to take a chance on the Pixapro CITI600's and I'm really glad I did!!
I've been using four of them for 5 months now and can honestly say that they are excellent. The batteries hold a fantastic charge and the lights work amazingly well. They are great in the studio and a really good size for location work (much smaller / lighter than the Bowens XMT's for example).
They have proven to be very reliable and I would highly recommend them

PIXAPRO CITI600 Manual Battery Powered Flash (AD600BM)
So far really happy with this. Slight confusion over how to use it with my radio trigger, as the manual says you need a plug-in receiver, which is not correct. Customer support pointed this out, I removed the plugin and it works fine. Even though I'm only using this in the studio, the benefits of not having cables everywhere is worth paying for.
